Innovative technology in the Panamanian mining industry

In face of the boom made by the Panamanian economy in the last seven year, with activities such as mining lead by Petaquilla Gold. S.A., company lead by the Panamanian business man Richard Fifer-Carles, being a kind of spearhead of many collateral activities, to Panama are arriving companies with top technology to be able to exploit more effective and friendlier to the environment.

 

One such company is Orica Mining Services, considered one of the largest worldwide, with vast traditions, leadership, innovation, quality and concern for the environment, which have gambled in the Panamanian boom and has come to invest in the country.

 

Christin Guerro, Business Manager of Orica Central America and the Caribbean, revealed that this company has more than a decade of being in Panama, through its distributors, but he horizon of prosperity that is planned for Panama, with new mining operations they decided to settle in Panamanian land.

 

He added that there presence in Panama would allow them to be more close to their clients and to maintain direct contact to attend their necessities, which obligated them to expand to other nations.

 

Guerrero said that besides the traditional life of explosive products and initiating system, Orica Mining Service would have a strong objective to provide new technologies to the Panamanian market, such as bulk emulsion and especially electronic initiation system i-kn TM and Uni Tironic TM.

 

It’s about high security technology, reliability and flexibility for the customers. “This electronic technology, will allow the flexibility of the programing each detonator in the desired time to reach the best optimization in the efficiency of energy of each detonation, improving communication and general process,” explained Guerrero.

 

Besides effectiveness, using this product brings fundamental benefits since it would not affect the environment, controlling the emission of harmful gases, thanks to a proper utilization and effectiveness of explosive energies and their immediate effects because of vibrations

 

Guerrero stated that the results of these products “have being very satisfactory, reliable and excelent for customers and general processes”.

 

He noted that in panama exist professionals that know about this new explosive technology and have enough information, even though the dimension of benefits and added values for companies would be reinforced so the advantages of these new technologies can be benefited.

 

With the incorporation of these technologies by Panama Orica Mining Services, our country would be at the same level as other nations that use blasts and explosives, Guerrero said.

 

The company Petaquilla Gold S.A. which uses  technology during its production process with recognized international standards of the world mining industry, billed last year 67 million dollars, becoming the first exporting item during the year 2010.

 

The projections for this year reveal that the mining company would charge 75 to 90 million dollars in gold export.
